Barbara Kent Canady

April 10, 1935 — November 7, 2022

Barbara Beth Kent Canady, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, entered into God's glory peacefully on Monday, November 7, 2022. She was active at Keller First Baptist Church for years, where she taught Sunday school, decorated classrooms, sewed nursery sheets, and served in many other areas along side her husband, Ronald Canady. They were there whenever the doors were open.

Ronald and Barbara met while working at the same accounting firm in Lubbock. Barbara was raised in Amarillo, Texas and went to college at Oklahoma A&M, where she was often the only woman in class. Ronald was raised in Oklahoma and went to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, which Barbara always found funny.

Barbara and Ronald raised their three children in Keller. She was an pioneering Girl Scout leader, PTA member, and was active in the local political scene. She served as Keller's mayor pro term for a short time and was particularly proud of the beautification project she accomplished along 1709.

Barbara was known for her love of animals, especially dogs. She raised Irish Setters and never said no to a stray or rescue. She believed in Jesus and always strived to serve Him with a kind word, a met need, or even a place to stay. She always made a point of making friends with the ignored, friendless, or lonely. She was intentional about including everyone. You can be sure that if you arrived and had no one to talk to, Barbara would find you, make you feel welcome, and ensure that you had a friend for life.

Barbara was an avid gardener and she especially loved iris and orchids. Her neighbors enjoyed her company, usually with her garden tubs in view from her back patio or on the bench on the front porch. She was hearty and strong like an iris and beautiful and unique like an orchid.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Beth Kent and her husband, Ronald Canady. She leaves a legacy of kind service to the Lord, strong faith, and a great sense of humor.

She is survived by her oldest son, Kent Canady, daughter in-law, Vicki, and their children, Aidan and Micah; daughter Kendal Castranova, her husband, Robert, and their children, Cassie and Crista; youngest son, Colin Canady, his wife, Jessica, and their children, Bethany, Dexter, and Eastyn. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Braxton and McKenna.
