Bert Allison Starr passed away on Monday April 17, 2023 at the age of 94 A quiet unassuming man but hard worker who will be greatly missed by numerous family members and friends.
Uncle Bert was born March 29, 1929 just down the street here in Grapevine to Lillie Mae and John Proctor Starr, the sixth of seven children. He graduated from Grapevine High School in 1947. He worked for City Drug in downtown Grapevine before moving to Grants, New Mexico for a few years to work for a mining company. It was while he was working in New Mexico he met and married his beautiful and loving wife Eleanore Pacheco.
They soon moved back to Grapevine where he worked in the lumber business for many years at Himes and Starr Redwood Supply Company. Bert had acquired a high degree of woodworking craftsmanship from working along side his Father doing projects while he was growing up in Grapevine. After retiring from the lumber business Bert indulged his passion for woodworking by making furniture for family and friends. In addition, he made many exquisite built lecterns and cabinets for Catholic churches and Boy Scouts of America Catholic Scouting organizations due to Eleanore's long employment with the National Headquarters in Irving, Texas.
Bert and Eleanore's bucket list contained a yearning for travel which they were able to fill while trekking all over the United States, Canada, and Europe. He always enjoyed telling about his travels to Ireland, England, Nova Scotia, Italy, and Holland to name just a few.
Bert was preceded in death by his wife Eleanore, his Mother Lillie Mae, his Father John, his siblings John, Bart, Mary Ruth, Emma, and Robbie. He is survived by his sister Lujean, his brother in law Gilbert Pacheco, his sister in law Patricia Pacheco and numerous Nieces and Nephews as well Great Nieces and Nephews, all of which will miss him tremendously for his quite strength and generosity.
