BEVERLY RAE SHEFFIELD MAXEY
April 1, 1948 - August 4, 2022

Beverly Rae Sheffield Maxey, age 74, of Fort Worth, Texas made her final and most important journey of her life to Heaven on Thursday, August 4, 2022 after a very aggressive and rapidly progressing battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Although she had not known that she would depart on that specific day, she was well-prepared and most likely delighted to be welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and reunited with the beloved ones who preceded her. In memory of Beverly, a visitation is scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Lucas Funeral Home at 1601 S Main St. in Keller, Texas. The funeral service will be at the same location on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. The graveside service will be in Rio Rancho, New Mexico on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Vista Verde Memorial Park, at 4310 Sara Rd. SE.

Beverly was born on April 1, 1948 in Beaumont, Texas to Charles Isham Sheffield and Molly Bernice Williams Sheffield. She and her older brother, the late Charles Lynn Sheffield, were brought up in a loving Christian home in the Spring Branch area of Houston. Beverly attended all levels of school there, graduating from Spring Branch High School in 1966. She always loved school and early on declared that she wanted to become an elementary teacher. She fulfilled that life-long desire by getting her education degree from Lamar University in December of 1969. She immediately started her career in January of 1970 in Spring Branch ISD. She later taught in the Katy and Tomball Independent School Districts retiring in 2004 with over 30 years of service in education.

On February 20, 1971, she married a devoted Christian man, Larry Wayne Maxey, who she met at South Main Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. Beverly and Larry enjoyed 37 years of marriage until his unexpected passing on March 12, 2008 in Placitas, New Mexico where they had retired. The Maxeys were blessed with three children. They raised two beautiful daughters of whom they were very proud. Tracey Lynne Maxey Johnson was born on February 27, 1973 and Melissa Rae Maxey McArthur was born on May 8, 1979. Beverly gained a son, Troy Wayne Maxey, when she married Larry who she has always regarded as her own.

At an early age, Beverly made her profession of faith in Jesus Christ and followed Him in baptism at Spring Branch Baptist Church. Family and faith were always Beverly’s top priorities. She served throughout her life in church ministry with Larry and continued after his passing. Her heart of service was evident to all. She served in puppet ministry, church choirs, youth group, Sunday school, mission projects, and Bible studies. She loved the Word of God and wanted everyone to know and study God’s Word. Beverly was always serving others and dedicated most of her time to her children and grandchildren. She talked to everyone she could about Jesus and she always tried to connect people to the local church as she faithfully attended and was actively involved in church her whole life.

Beverly had an outgoing personality and never met a stranger. Because of her genuine interest in others, she worked at maintaining relationships with friends and relatives near and far and made a memorable impact on anyone around her. She also enjoyed shopping and reading and loved to cook and bake and open her home to others. She also greatly enjoyed watching football and basketball games and having lunch with her friends.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Bernice Sheffield, brother Charles Sheffield, and husband Larry Maxey. She is survived by her daughter Tracey Johnson; daughter Melissa and husband Joe McArthur; stepson Troy and wife Lynne Maxey; and grandchildren: Katie, Molly, Jonah, Jennifer, Kelly, and Ryan; and 5 great-grandchildren. Several nephews and cousins and their families also mourn Beverly’s loss along with many friends that she gathered through the years. She will be greatly missed.

Those who want to honor Beverly’s life with a memorial contribution are encouraged to consider donating to The Gideons International ( www.sendtheword.org ) or to Bible Study Fellowship ( www.bsfinternational.org ). Donations made in her memory to these organizations will enable her to keep spreading the Word of God. Any cards or notes can be sent to Tracey and Melissa at 3961 Vista Greens Dr, Fort Worth, TX 76244.
