Carol Bass Casey

Carol Sue Bass was born on July 12, 1952 in Harris Hospital Fort Worth, Texas to Betty Lou Bass and Clovis Clifford Bass. Carol was the eldest of two children and has a little brother, Clovis Dean Bass. Betty Lou said “it was like waking up from a dream having my prayers heard and answered.” Doctor said she was small in size “but loud in noise” and that is how Carol lived her entire life.

Carol was a great child and was very busy with a multitude of activities including school sports, drill team, barrel racing, pageants, and theatre. Carol could bring a smile to anyone’s face and was well loved as stated in so many yearbook signings. Carol went on to obtain her Bachelors of Science in Education and taught secondary school for a year before obtaining her Masters of Education in Teaching both from University of North Texas. Carol went on to teach multiple grades, loving 8th grade the most at Northwest Middle School and Medlin Middle School. She retired from Northwest ISD in 2005.

Carol has two children, Chad Edward Crawford born in 1978, and Callie Carol Crawford born in 1982. She loved to coach and be on the sidelines as often as possible for her children’s sport and school activities. She was famous for yelling on the sidelines during her son’s football games and while coaching her daughter’s cheer team. She instilled faith and strength into her children. She taught them they could do anything they set their minds to and to always trust in the Lord and His plans for them. Carol had a love for coaching and coached many sports, however her love for cheerleading and coaching led her middle school cheerleading team to cheering at halftime for the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles game at Texas Stadium in 1998. She coached many athletes. Sports and the classroom weren't her only passions for teaching though! She loved being on stage and was often found there as a teenager and during the Haltom High School theater plays. She also made the stage at Casa Manana in some summer stock plays after high school. Carol was part of teaching at Northwest Middle School for their UIL Drama competitions. Later in life, Carol continued to step on stage for many church plays.

After one year of retirement at the young age of 53, Carol went back to her love of teaching, this time bringing her love for Jesus to the forefront, teaching for Bethesda Christian School. After teaching at BCS for eight years, Carol, not being able to sit still, had an itch to teach at the college level. She picked up a second job as Adjunct Faculty at Tarrant County College, Trinity River Campus. She went back to her alma mater, UNT, to take three more courses enabling her the ability to become Faculty Professor at TCC after retiring from BCS where she taught English for ten years. Carol taught at TCC until the Fall of 2020, retiring for her third and final time.

Carol married the love of her life, Philip Casey, in 2003 after meeting at church. Phil has three children, Heather Corliss, Nathan Casey, and Brandon Casey. Blending their families together created a large family including spouses and children. Phil describes Carol as his “baby cakes” and “little tornado.” Everything Carol did her entire life was with gusto. She was a force to be reckoned with! She loved fiercely and supported all those she loved. Carol loved serving at church and leading people to God.

Carol is preceded in death by her mother, Betty Lou Bass, her father, Clovis Clifford Bass, and her grandparents.

Carol leaves behind her husband Philip Casey, son, Chad Crawford and wife Alana Crawford, daughter Callie Crawford, grandsons Kane Crawford and Easton Teague; stepdaughter Heather Corliss; stepson Nathan Casey and wife Jayasri Casey; stepson Brandon Casey and wife Connie Casey; grandchildren Ethan and Meagan Utsinger; Christopher, Hayden, Charlie and Nivin Casey; Trent and Lillian Casey; sister-in-law Karen and husband Ted Faaborg; and brother, Clovis and wife Martha Bass, and niece and nephew Bridgette and Ryan Bass.

Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 24, 2022 at North Richland Hills Baptist Church.
