Christopher Lee Conner

Chris Conner was born in Lake Charles, LA on December 11, 1956 to the parents of Nolan and Estelle Conner. He grew up with two sisters and a brother. He had a hard start to life due to heart defects that were corrected in 1963. He was a Boy Scout and enjoyed duck hunting with his family. He graduated from Barbe Sr. High.

After high school he attended Harding University in Searcy, AR, White's Ferry Road School of Preaching in Monroe, LA and Abilene Christian University in Abilene, TX. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Texas Tech University and became an elementary and middle school teacher teaching English Language Arts and Reading.

In 1994, he met and married his wife, Laurie Odom. They enjoyed camping, hiking, listening to music and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys.

Chris' mother and grandmother instilled a lifelong faith in Chris. He loved studying the Bible in depth. He would read his Greek New Testament in search of the purest meaning of the word. He was motivated to educate and inspire as many people as he could through his faith in God. He and his wife were long time members of The Hills Church in North Richland Hills.

Chris loved to entertain people by telling Cajun jokes and playing guitar and singing. He was passionate about music, especially bluegrass, oldies, and gospel. He also wrote some of his own songs as well as poems and stories. He wrote a children's book titled The Cajuns Go Camping written in Cajun dialect and pulling from his camping experiences. Several books came later.

In 1999, Chris started experiencing life altering health issues when his heart began to fail. In 2010, he was blessed with a heart transplant that gave him an additional 14 years.

All of us who knew and loved him are rejoicing that he is no longer burdened with health struggles and can have peace in the arms of our Lord. He passed peacefully at home on May 25, 2024.

Chris is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Olla Mae Aplin and his brother Tony (TC) Conner. He is survived by his wife, Laurie, his sister Melonie Conner White, a nephew, Ron Hidalgo, Jr. and niece Lea Conner.
