The family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date.

Gary was born in Decatur (closest hospital at the time) on April 27, 1940. His parents were Vernon Forrest Blagg and Margurite Barton. Gary was a 3rd generation Grapevine resident. He graduated from Grapevine High School in 1958 and soon started to work at Mosher Steel where he was the lead fitter who built the columns for the first 22 floors of the World Trade Center. Gary also was a member of the Grapevine Volunteer Fire Department from 1963-1979. He even used to try to arrive first at the station in order to drive the fire truck (which he was not allowed to drive). After many years as the Executive Vice President for Broadway Warehouse, he left to start his own business with his wife. Gary and Wanda started Blagg Tire & Service Goodyear in 1986, that quickly grew into a successful business. His last few years he enjoyed a leisurely life with his wife at his side; traveling and enjoying family time.

Gary was involved in the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce, was honored as DE Box Citizen of the Year in 1997, and inducted into Grapevine High School Hall of Fame in 2002. Gary served on many boards including GCISD Career and Technology Task Force, as well as being appointed by former Governor Bush to the Texas Skills Standards Board. His dedication also extended to being a Mason for 52 years with the Grapevine Masonic Lodge and was a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge.

Gary married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Sue Watson, on March 1, 1963. As they were leaving the chapel, they were chased by the police in his 1957 Chevy down Main Street. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wanda; son Gayland; daughter Sheila, and granddaughters Cheyenne and Sydney. Gary loved his family very deeply and enjoyed playing games with them on the weekends.

Gary is most known for his loud rap music, jokes, and his hot rod 1993 Chevrolet 454S, (which his kids refused to let him drive to keep Grapevine safe). Gary had a reputation for personally knowing all the police officers for speeding/racing around town. He was a very special one of a kind person who never met a stranger, was friends with everyone, and loved by all.

Gary’s lifelong commitment has been to serve others before himself. He is a dedicated husband, father, and grandpa.
