KATHERINE LOUISE ROBINSON
aka “Grandma” aka “mamaw”
Passed away December 28, 2022 in
Born September. 7, 1932 in Afton, TX the daughter of Mattie Young Speights and James Reagen Speights.
Katherine graduated from Patton Springs School (Home of the Rangers).
Briefly after graduation she moved down to Pecos, where her father was working there dredging out a lake, the back to Afton.
At age 19 she worked at a hardware store in Spur.
At the hardware store she met her future husband, Orville Layfette Robinson, They married and moved to Lubbock. Following Lubbock they moved to Haltom City where they had their first born James! Then on to Corpus Christie where second son Phil was born!
These were the transient years before settling down in Hurst, TX in 1969. Before moving to Hurst the family moved from Corpus to Conroe, El Paso, and Tyler
Before moving to Hurst Katherine worked for Montgomery Wards and various Odd Jobs until 1971 – 1972 when she started with MDI, She handled all the logistics routing their trucks for deliveries! She did that until 1993, then retired at the age or 61.
She loved the mountains and beaches. For fun in addition to family, mountains and beaches she loved her Dallas Cowboys, gambling: card, slots, horse races, stock show rodeo.
She loved dogs of all sizes, no matter how big they all sat in her lap in the recliner.
Katherine made home made Mac & Cheese that would make you Howl with approval. Her go to food was Mexican all the way.
Katherine was not a shrinking violet, she could handle things on her own-independent and tough: Into her later years she would still get up on the roof. She had a tool belt with “TOUGH OLD BROAD” Engraved on it.
“She was a pleasure to be around” was often quoted by her family.
Those left to cherish her memory: sons, James (Cheryl), Phil; grandchildren, Tyler, Joe, Tiffany, Amanda, Chad (Emily); great-grandchildren, Aly, Jerci, Brodi, Brylie, Cash, Brett, Hunter.
