Lola Loretta Stark

November 21, 1934 — May 10, 2024

Lola Loretta Legg Stark, aged 89, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2024 at home. She was born on November 21, 1934, in Long Island City, New York to Fae and Harry Legg. She married Jeffrey Stark on April 12, 1955, in Manhattan, New York. As newlyweds, Jeff and Lola were posted to a US Army unit in Neu Ulm, Germany. After Jeff's deployment, they returned to New York to begin their family. They welcomed their two children and moved from New York to Colorado to Texas over the years. She and Jeff lived in Grapevine for 35 years until her death.

Lola received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Queens College and later a Master of Education from Western Connecticut State University. She became a teacher and spent much of her career focusing on young learners with special needs.

Lola was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and spent as much time as possible with her family, especially enjoying the games they played together at the weekly Sunday afternoon gatherings. As a couple, Lola and Jeff enjoyed ballroom dancing, attending concerts or musicals, visiting the Kimball museum, or playing their favorite card game at one of many bridge nights with friends over the years. Lola took joy in teaching the next two generations of bridge players as well! A lifelong learner, Lola loved to travel, first with Jeff and the children and later with her grandchildren, seeing everything from natural wonders to amusement parks!

She was an ardent proponent of human rights and supported many organizations that promote equality for all people. She loved caring for everyone in her orbit and her attention and love will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband Jeff, son Randy and daughter-in-law Jennifer, daughter Laura, and grandchildren Kevin, Matthew, Marie, and Ryan. She will be remembered at a memorial service on Saturday, May 25 at 10 am, at First Presbyterian Church in Grapevine.
