BEDFORD -- Melvin Thomas Lamar, 76, passed away Friday, Dec. 30, 2016.
Funeral: 9:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, in the chapel of Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst. Interment follows in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mel was born in Decatur to Willie and Frank Lamar on Jan. 4, 1940. He lived most of his adult life in Bedford. He was a Vietnam veteran and dedicated 30 years of his life in service to our country between the Marines and Texas Air National Guard. He worked in federal service with the FAA for 14 years after retiring from the military. Post retirement from the FAA, he enjoyed his time on the ranch with his horse, dogs and cats.
Survivors: Wife, Sofia Lamar; daughter, Julie Kibbett (Glenn); son, Brad Lamar (Melanie); stepdaughter, Sofia Cisneros; stepson, Moises Cisneros; brothers, Loyd Lamar (Carol), Teddy Lamar (Sabra); sisters, Margaret Lamar (RG Smith), Glenda Walker (Bruce); sister-in-law, Debbie Lamar; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.
