Melvin Wesley White was called to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 12, 2017. Mel lived a life centered around Christ and his family. He lived a life full of love, fun, adventure, and laughter.
He was born August 28, 1935 in Collinsville, Oklahoma as the second of three children to the late Raymond White and Dorothy Powers-White. He attended primary school in Oklahoma where he made life-long friendships he has maintained since his graduation in 1953.
Mel served in the Air Force as a dental assistant, spending time in France. While in Tulsa, he met the love of his life at a blind date, Mary Joan Tower, who became his wife on January 10, 1959. Mel and Mary welcomed six children with most of them born while Mel attended college. Mel earned his Bachelors degree in Biology, Chemistry and Physics from the University of Tulsa in 1969. Soon after, Mel and Mary moved their family to Texas, living in Hurst, Odessa and Haslet. He worked as a stock broker as a futures trader on the Chicago and New York trading floors. He continued to focus his life on his faith in Christ and community service. His most treasured accomplishment in life was being a husband to Mary, father to his six children, and grandfather to all of his grandkids and greatgrandkids over 58 years.
Mel White is survived by his wife Mary White; his sister Martha Phillips and brother Charles White; his children Mel White Jr., Charlie Ray White, Teresa White-Orosco, Tom White, Tim White, and John White; his grandchildren Meagan, Eric, Mel White III, Charles Ryan, Kelci, Whitney, Brittany, Justin, Hailey, Morgan, Sophie, Dominic, Annabelle, Monica, McKenzie, Marshall, Jaxson, Liliana, Ariel.
Funeral Mass will be 11AM, Monday, July 17 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Keller. Visitation 6-8PM Sunday, July 16 at Lucas Funeral Home Keller Chapel with the rosary being recited at 6PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Masses be said in Melvin's honor or donations to the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton's Adoration Chapel fund in Keller, Texas.
