“Al” Paschal, 82, was called home by his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 18, 2017.
Al was a resident of Bedford, TX and a longtime member and former Elder of Peace Lutheran Church in Hurst, Texas. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas, graduated from Paschal High School, earned a Degree in Finance from TCU, and at age 50, earned a Master’s Degree from Amber University.
Al served as the First Worthy Grand Master of Kappa Sigma Fraternity on the TCU campus, and was an All-American shortstop at TCU. He was Captain of TCU’s 1956 SWC Baseball team, was named to the All SWC Team, and led the SWC in batting average (.424), stolen bases, and fielding percentage among shortstops. The Detroit Tigers drafted Al and he played professional baseball for 6 years. He was subsequently inducted into the TCU Sports Hall of Fame. After an injury which ended his baseball career, Al became an avid golfer.
Al worked in insurance and real estate for 25 years, followed by 10 years with Tarrant County MHMR as Program Manager for the Psycho Social Rehab and Supported Employment Program which was the highlight of his career. During that time, he also developed a Supported Education Program which enabled MHMR clients to return to school at Tarrant County College.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Gottlieb Paschal and Lorena Morris Paschal and by his sister, Barbara Paschal Horn.
Al was very loving and had a joyous spirit and he was much loved by his family and friends.
Al is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kathleen Johnson Paschal; sons, Scott Owen Paschal, M.D. (Gina), John Christopher Paschal (Syboney Zapata, M.D.); daughters, Linda Paschal Filler (Rick), and Laura Paschal Troup (Gordon); grandchildren, Meredith Hefner, Ben, Sam and Claire Paschal, Kaitlin and Kelsey Troup; step-granddaughters, Erica and Shea Filler, former wife and mother of his children, Betty Piper Paschal and nieces, Misti and Taryn Horn.
A Celebration of Al’s Life will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 941 Bedford Euless Rd., in Hurst, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Peace Lutheran Church Youth Rec Renovation Fund.
