Alva Meador

February 9, 1920 — September 7, 2013

HALTOM CITY -- Alva Langston "Al" Meador passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, while in the hospital. Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Birdville Baptist Church. Interment: Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst. Memorials: Donations may be made to American Heart Association or a charity of choice. Al was born Feb. 9, 1920, in Blooming Grove, the fourth of five sons born to the late Edgar Lee and Cora Rachel Carrington Meador. He graduated from high school in Blooming Grove and was one of the surviving five in the graduating class of 21 students. He attended business college in Dallas and later attended UTA and TCU. He served our country from 1942 to 1946, attaining the rank of master sergeant. In 1940 he married Mildred Ruth Sims, who died in 1995 at the age of 75. In 2000 he married Twila Spicer who survives him. Two sons were born to Al and Mildred, Stephen and Paul. Both survive him. Al was an active member of Handley Baptist Church for over 50 years and served as a deacon during that time. He was a current member of Birdville Baptist Church and taught a men's Bible class for the past eight years. Al was the retired owner of Texas Aluminum Foundry, which is now being operated by his sons, Stephen and Paul, and his daughter-in-law, Leslie. He was a past member of the American Foundry Society, The Downtown Rotary Club and the East Side Optimist Club. Al never met a stranger, he enjoyed his family, his church, camping, any sporting event, and watching the birds. He was greatly loved and will be missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Lee and Cora Rachel; four brothers, Cecil, Earl, Robert and Bruce; and his first wife, Mildred. Survivors: His wife, Twila; son, Stephen and his wife, Nelda, and their six children; son, Paul and his wife, Leslie, and their four children; stepdaughter, Connie Foster and her two children; stepdaughter, Melissa Bousquet and her husband, Dr. John Bousquet, and their six children; stepson, John Dee Spicer and his wife, Jill, and their eight children; 26 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
