Amie Raiann McElroy Delathouder, daughter, sister, loving wife, mom, the very best Mimi, and loyal friend—our toughest fighter and biggest fan—went to Heaven on Saturday, October 15, 2022, to be with her Lord, her Daddy, and her beloved Sugar, surrounded by family and friends. She faced her yearlong impossible situation with courageousness, grace, and her signature smile.
Amie was born in Arlington, Texas, on May 22, 1970, to Winnie and Bill McElroy. She grew up in Arlington and Longview, Texas, and graduated from Sam Houston High School. She received her associate degree from Tarrant County College.
Growing up, her summers were filled with playing softball and working at Six Flags Over Texas, where she met the love of her life, Johnny. She was the bright and charismatic little sister of her family of five—her Daddy’s girl.
Amie’s life revolved around her friends and family. She and Johnny regularly took trips to Mimi’s happy place, Mexico; camped every New Year’s with an extended group of friends; and loved to host pool parties and get-togethers—planned or spontaneous—at their house. And, of course, she loved Friday Night Mexican with her loverboy, Johnny.
A ‘Schroeder Girl’ and a Southwest Airlines flight attendant for over 20 years, Amie was an exceptionally hard worker. An entrepreneur at heart, Amie also bought, flipped, and managed her own rental properties—all the while camping out for almost a month every year for over a decade to run and supervise all the games at the State Fair of Texas. She hustled for her entire life on and off the softball field.
Her passions included her family, of course, finding treasures at garage sales, taking her daily walks, anything outdoors or in the sun, spending time at the Smanch, and her precious granddaughter, AJ.
An avid supporter of Lucky Labs, Mimi drove several Freedom Rides for labs being transported to their forever homes across Texas. After she lost Sugar, she brokenheartedly decided to “foster only” a white lab named Willow. We all know how that turned out.
She loved her family more than anything. Mimi was—and remains—the best of all of us. All our love forever, Meems. We’re the lucky ones.
She is survived by her husband, Johnny; mother, Winnie McElroy; daughter, Alexi Gow and her husband, Clay Gow; son, Maddux Delathouder; beloved granddaughter, Adeline June “AJ” Gow; brother, Billy McElroy and his wife, Katrina McElroy; sister, Pennie Futrell, and her husband, Price Futrell; mother-in-law, Ellen Hubbell and her husband, Jim Hubbell; favorite niece, Chelsea “Cheeky” Futrell and her husband, Lance Kay; nephews, Billy Ray McElroy; Wes McElroy and his wife, Kristyn McElroy; Corey McElroy and his wife, Karson McElroy; and Chase Futrell and his fiancée, Amanda Salinas; great-nephews, Caleb, James, Beau, Jason, Brantley, Hudson, Bowen, Camden, and Baylor McElroy; great-niece, Ruthie Jean McElroy; an incredible circle of lifelong friends and extended family whom she loved dearly; and her lucky lab, Willow.
Amie is preceded in death by her beloved daddy, Bill McElroy; sister-in-law, Nancy McElroy; her grandparents, Geneva Sims, Clovis and Margie McElroy; and Sugar.
