A loving and dedicated Christian lady, Lucinda Ann (Knox) Giles, almost 86-years young, slipped into eternal rest on March 8, following a lengthy illness. She was born at home in Ponder, Texas on March 13, 1933 to Mark and Ella Lee (Means) Knox. The youngest of four children, Ann often worked in her parents’ grocery store until graduating from Ponder High School in 1951.
After completing an elementary education bachelor’s degree from North Texas State University in Denton in 1954, Ann taught in Port Arthur, Texas; San Bernardino, California; Fort Worth and Everman, Texas for a total of 27 years. Always teaching in first grade classrooms, she touched the lives of hundreds of youngsters at the start of their educational journey. In her teaching career, Ann earned a master’s degree from Fort Worth’s Texas Wesleyan University in 1959.
Following a chance meeting at a worship service and subsequent courtship, she married Robert C. Giles at the Ponder Church of Christ on June 10, 1960 – beginning a loving marriage encompassing nearly 59 years.
A member of the Highland Church of Christ, Ann lived an exemplary Christian life as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her gentle demeanor, gracious smile and loving spirit impressed everyone who knew her. A quiet and assuming servant of the Lord, Ann cared greatly for the welfare of others, frequently visiting shut-in and sick members of her congregation with meals and communion. She loved to walk and read, complete crossword puzzles and travel, especially to Colorado, New Mexico and the Texas Hill Country.
Ann is survived by her husband, Robert, two sons and daughters-in-law, Efton (Roberta) of San Antonio, and Zack (Susan) of Ft Worth, along with four grandchildren (Adam, Nathan, Rachel and Leslie), a brother and sister-in-law, Mark (Jane) Knox, two sisters, June Sexton and Eloise Isbell, and her sister-in-law, Dorothy Giles.
Ann will be laid to rest at Laurel Land Cemetery, 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, Texas on Thursday, March 14, 2019. Officiating at her 2.00 P.M. graveside service will be Robert Moss, minister of the Highland Church of Christ. Flowers and expressions of sympathy may be sent to Lucas & Blessing Funeral Home in Burleson, Texas.
