Arnold Leroy Parrish, 96, passed away Feb. 19, 2016. What an example of service, work ethic, commitment and love he demonstrated and his family will celebrate this with a lifetime of memories!

Service/Interment: Private on Thurs. at DFW National Cemetery

Arnold was born October 1, 1919 on the family farm in Moran, Texas. He was one of six children born to W. O. and Gladys Parrish. His family moved to Wellington, Texas where Arnold graduated from high school and was a running back on the 1937 undefeated Wellington Rockets football team. He worked in Amarillo at Pantex then enlisted with the Marines in 1943. His active duty took him to San Diego, New Caledonia, Guadalcanal, Guam, Okinawa and Honshu Island. His ship was offsetting the USS Missouri at Tokyo Bay when the surrender treaty was signed by General MacArthur. He was honorably discharged in December, 1945. After the war, Arnold met Juanita Moses, “the love of his life”. They were married in Lubbock on May 8, 1949 and celebrated for 66 years. He graduated from Texas Technological College (Texas Tech) in 1952 and built a home while he and Juanita worked in Lubbock. He had an opportunity to swap their home for a grocery store in Post, Texas so it was there they owned and operated Parrish Grocery for 23 years and raised their two girls, Sue and Patti. He served on the City Council and enjoyed being active in the community. Arnold and Juanita moved back to Lubbock in 1976 and each worked for Methodist Hospital for 10 years before retiring. They traveled some within the U.S. then in 1993 moved to Fort Worth to be near family and enjoy their grandchildren in Fort Worth and Houston. Arnold always created fabulous vegetable gardens in the backyard of his homes, was active in his church, enjoyed volunteer work after retirement and always enjoyed a fierce game of dominos! He loved his country, proudly flying the Stars and Stripes in his front yard. Arnold's favorite Bible verse was Romans 8:9 and hymn “To God Be the Glory!” Arnold will be missed by all who were fortunate to have known him!
The family wants to express sincere thanks to the following people who helped with Arnold's care: Doctors and nurses of Harris SW and Downtown, The Courtyards of River Park, Home Care Extended and Kindred Hospice.
Survivors: Wife, Juanita; daughter Sue (Bill) Gold, grandchildren Chloe, Colin, Cameron, Joey and Ben; daughter Patti (Larry) Brogdon, granddaughter Skylar (Stephen) O'Neal and great-grandson, Brannon, and granddaughter Landry (Jason) Griffin
