Arthur Harold Clayton

August 30, 1948 — April 9, 2024

Arthur Harold Clayton (75) was born on August 30, 1948, in Winnipeg, Canada, and joined God, The Father Almighty and Lord Jesus Christ, surrounded by his wife and children on April 9, 2024. Art was a builder of homes, businesses, and families.

At seven years old, his family moved to Texas which became his home and his heart. Art attended MacArthur High School. In his sophomore year, he began dating the love of his life, Karen Patterson. He lettered in football, track, and basketball while at MHS. He competed in the state track meet in the broad jump. While in high school, he attended Boys State, was named Mr. FTA for district five, and named the First Mr. MHS.

He attended SMU and Northwood Business Institute where he played football and studied business. During college, he joined the Presbyterian faith and married Karen in 1969. At that time, he began his lifelong career of residential and commercial real estate and development. During the 1980’s, he successfully developed properties in the Metroplex.

In 1994, Art relocated the family to Southlake. He continued his work as a real estate broker. He developed multiple residential subdivisions and commercial properties in Southlake, through his family-run business Clayton & Clayton Real Estate. He had a passion for selling and building places where families could live and grow. He appreciated God’s Majestic Creation by preserving trees and natural habitats for wildlife in his developments and in his home.

Over the years, he and Karen cheered on the kids in countless competitions. All five of his children competed at the collegiate level including football at Austin College, football at UTEP, and women’s basketball at TCU. His grandchildren are standout student athletes earning Academic All-State, All-District, All-State, and All-American recognition.

He is survived by Karen, his wife of 55 years this December; his five children (and spouses): Art (Elizabeth), Chris, Carey (Heather), Karen (Corey), and Robert (Taylor), and his grandchildren: Lily Kate (Austin), Arthur Patterson, Kaylee Ann, Kinsley Kay, Carey Cole, Isabel Renee, and Caitlyn Rose.

He is also survived by in-laws Patty and Corey Hoffpauir, Kim and Bob Owens, Rob and Ellen Patterson as well as nieces and nephews Juliana, Chase, Tiffany, Troy, John, Justin, Tammie, Anne, Addie, and Alise.

He joins his parents Arthur Francis and Irene Clayton, sister Carol Casey, in-laws Robert and Kate Patterson, and precious angel granddaughter, Alexandra Claire Clayton, in God’s everlasting love.

A celebration of Art’s life will be conducted Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at White’s Chapel Methodist Church in Southlake, Texas, at 1pm.

Art was an avid supporter of the Dragon athletic teams. He understood the significance of each donation empowering athletes to pursue their dreams, much like his children and grandchildren. Instead of flowers, kindly consider honoring Arthur H. Clayton’s memory with a donation to the Carroll Athletic Booster Club in his name.

Above all, Art loved his beautiful family, holiday parties, meals, and cheering on loved ones at sporting events. His home has been adorned with Dragon flags and green lights in support for decades. He valued hard work, attention to detail and tenacity. He taught us to do the ordinary things extraordinarily well. Papa has been the cornerstone to the foundation of our family and our communities. On Friday night, when the wind blows just right, we know we can hear him bellow from the stands, “Go Hard, or Go Home.”

In his final hours with us here, the Earth looked on in amazement at an eclipse, and storms raged through the night in North Texas. Today, his words echo in our hearts and souls, “Tell Them I LOVE THEM Every Day - EVERY DAY!” We hear you, we feel you, our Beloved Husband, Dad, and Papa.
