HALTOM CITY -- Arvie Irene Roach, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012, after a full and active life.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Lucas Funeral Chapel, 517 North Sylvania Ave. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: One hour before the service.
Arvie, the third of six children, was born May 15, 1909, in Wing, Ark. She married Edgar Lee Roach on Aug. 7, 1928. They lived in Anton until the early 1940s, when they moved to Fort Worth and settled in the Riverside and Haltom City area to work in the defense plant (Consolidated) and raise their two children, Bobby Gene and Ruth Ladean.
After the war, while Edgar built houses and operated his used car lots, Arvie concentrated on her family and many interests. She was a longtime member of Riverside Baptist Church. She was a Worthy Matron in the Riverside Chapter 834, Order of the Eastern Star, and a mother adviser to many Rainbow Girls. Arvie was recently given a lifetime membership in this organization.
She loved cooking and entertaining, and generously shared her talents. Her food was a legend in the family and has left us with fond memories. Arvie passed her love of reading down to several generations. She worked at the Haltom City library for many years until her retirement in the mid-1970s. Arvie's true passion was gardening, and her flowers were well known in her neighborhood. She shared her beautiful blooms with friends and strangers.
Her 103-year journey is over, but the impact she had on our lives will not be forgotten. We will miss her.
Arvie was preceded in death by four brothers; one sister; and her husband, Edgar.
Survivors: She is survived by her children, Bobby and Joan Roach of Federal Way, Wash., and Ruth Ladean Icenhower of Haltom City; nephews, Jimmy Eudy and Jim Walden; nieces, Glenna Fay Lilly, Susan O'Quinn, Barbara Francisco. Her love lives on in the lives of her grandchildren and their families.
