Austin Gregory Webb

November 28, 1948 — December 31, 2021

Austin Gregory Webb born November 28, 1948 passed away on December 31, 2021, due to complications from frontal lobe dementia.
Greg was born in Abilene, TX, and lived in several Texas and West Virginia cities until his family settled in Iowa Park when he entered 7th Grade. Greg quickly established himself as a good student and excellent athlete. During his high school years he was voted Most Popular as a Sophomore and Junior and Mr. IPHS his Senior year. He was active in all sports but especially loved football. He received team and district honors and was eventually offered a full scholarship to TCU. There he was regularly recognized for his outstanding defensive play and named Most Valuable Player his Senior year. He received his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration in 1970.
Greg began his career in banking and quickly transitioned to investment broker. During his working years he received recognition for his sales success and prided himself in building customer relationships. He ended his career with SAMCO Capital Markets after 36 plus years in the business. During his adult years, he enjoyed time with family, travel, tennis (where he was once awarded a trophy for Most “Trying” Student, trying being the key word), and working around the house.
Greg was preceded in death by his daughter, Dedra Leah; his parents Austin Webb and Jean Hilty Webb Beasley; his sister, Dianne Webb and brother, Jet Webb. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, son Owen, step-son Steven Dellinger Pate and wife Charlene, step-daughter Cindy Brayton and two grandchildren, Grace Dellinger Pate and Houston Brayton. He is also survived by his former step-mother Mary Webb, brothers Steve Webb, Johnny Webb, Chet Webb and sisters Josie Jarrett and Melanie Brown, niece and nephews, aunts and uncles.
The family wants to thank Autumn Leaves Memory Care and Lenity Light Hospice for their care and support these past two months. A special thank you to family and friends and his former employer SAMCO who supported Greg and Sharon during his illness. Dementia is a mean, nasty, ugly, dehumanizing disease still not understood by the medical community. For that reason, the family has donated Greg’s body to the Brain Project, funded through the University of Miami.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 14, 1:00pm, at Lucas Funeral Home, 700 W. Wall St, Grapevine, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Lenity Light Hospice, 1236 S. Ridge Ct, Ste 200, Hurst, TX 76053. For those who chose not to attend due to COVID concerns, the service will be live streamed on Greg’s tribute page, lucasfuneralhomes.com.
