Awanda J. Koval, 84, passed away February 8, 2021 at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:30am, Saturday, February 27, 2021, at Lucas & Blessing Funeral Home in Burleson, with burial to follow at Burleson Memorial Cemetery. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the service.
Awanda was born December 26, 1936, in Ravenna, Ohio to Vernon and Marguerite Hawkins. She grew up in Kent, Ohio and graduated from Kent State University High School in 1954. After high school, she attended college at Kent State University and where she received an associate’s degree in Business. She worked for numerous companies including, Montgomery Ward, Lawson Real Estate, United Rubber Workers Union, and Parker College as an executive secretary. She was the past president of BPW (Business and Professional Women’s Foundation).
She was a member of Pathway Church’s Coffee Talk for Women, and she enjoyed music and dancing. Awanda was an accomplished piano player, winning accolades and competitions.
Awanda was married to Clarence M. Mackey, Jr. from 1957 to 1970 and to Jay P. Koval from 1973 until his passing in 2019.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Marguerite Hawkins; son, David M. Koval; and husband, Jay P. Koval.
Awanda is survived by her son, Richard Mackey and wife, Jane; step-son, Guy Koval and wife, Eldonna; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Marcey Washburn; brother, Phil Hawkins; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to a charity of your choice.
