Barbara Sharon Fisher (Bates) died on June 27, 2016 in Fort Worth, TX. Born February 3, 1939, in Joplin, Missouri, Barbara was the daughter of Helen Louise (Warden) Bates and James Hugh Bates. She was the oldest of five siblings: Carol, Barton, Patricia "Kay", and Clyde.
When Barbara was young, the family moved to Indiana and later to southeastern Oklahoma, where her father worked for the railroad. She grew up and attended high school in Poteau, Oklahoma.
Barbara married Lyndall Coleman Fisher in 1967 and they had two children, Sharon Lynn and Clint Coleman. She has three grandchildren: Zachary Allen Fisher, Seth Coleman Fisher and Selah Nicole Fisher.
Barbara earned a degree in chemistry from Oklahoma State University. She worked briefly as a social worker and as a college math instructor before her first child was born in 1968. In the late 1970s, she began a career as a computer programmer and later worked as a systems analyst. She retired in 2007.
During her adult life, Barbara lived in Colorado, Oklahoma, Connecticut and Texas. She loved the outdoors and particularly enjoyed sailing, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving and hiking. She also loved traveling with family, especially to beach destinations such as the southern coast of the United States, the Virgin Islands, Hawaii, and Mexico. She enjoyed music and she took both voice and guitar lessons and sang in her church choir.
Barbara was bright and curious, fun-loving, kind and supportive, and a loving daughter, mother and grandmother.
