Barbara Prather Wickman of Weatherford, TX grew her wings and entered the Kingdom of Heaven on June 7th, 2024, at the age of 72.
Barbara was born February 2nd, 1952, in Weatherford, TX. She is a 1970 graduate of Weatherford High School and earned her associate degree from Weatherford College in 1972. Barbara married Mike Wickman in 1984 and had one son Michael in May 1985.
An accomplished professional, Barbara worked for the state of Texas, having a career spanning three decades. She started her career at the Department of Human Services Weatherford office in 1974, retiring as Regional Supervisor for the Office of the Inspector General in 2003. Having managed units in Arlington and Lubbock, Barbara’s leadership was felt across the great state of Texas.
A proud Texan, Barbara was always proud of her family’s heritage. The Prather family migrated from Tennessee to Texas in 1894 and settled the Carter community near where Charles Goodnight watered his cattle herds. They were farmers and stockmen. The family also owned and operated the Carter Telephone Exchange.
All her friends and family will remember her for how warm, sweet, and welcoming she was. Saying that she will be missed would be a massive understatement but, Heaven is twice as sweet now that Barbara has come home.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father I.E. Prather; mother, Audrey Prather (née Roberts); sister, Mary Springfield (née Prather); and cousin, Nancy Pruitt. She is survived by her son Michael Wickman; cousins, Nancy Bayouth (née Springfield), Keith Springfield, Charles “Tootie” Prater, and Brandy McDaniel (née Prater); and chosen sons, Luis Rosas, Jake Bryant, John Sedlak, and Mathew Hastings.
A memorial service will be held Saturday June 22nd, 2024, at Friendship Baptist Church, 801 Friendship Rd, Weatherford, TX 76085. Visitation will be at 1pm followed by the service at 2pm.
