Barney Joseph Sales, husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Friday, September 1, 2023, at the age of 73.
Barney was born on April 12th,1950 in Detroit, MI. His Lutheran faith was nurtured by his parents, Barney and Lenora (Lee) Sales. Growing up, he attended Holy Cross Lutheran School and Lutheran High School West in Detroit. He went on to graduate from Eastern Michigan University where he met the love of his life, Debbie.
Barney and Debbie built their 34 years of marriage on their Lutheran faith and values, as well as their love and commitment toward each other. They raised two daughters in Plymouth and Wixom, MI. In 2000, they relocated to Justin, Tx, to join their family in the DFW area. Barney and Debbie quickly embraced the warmer weather and Texas cuisine. They discovered wonderful fellowship and built close friendships with their church family here.
Debbie’s death in 2007 left a large hole in his heart that was filled by loving his 5 grandchildren and his canine soulmate, Narnia. In retirement, Barney also filled his time with fellowship, motorcycle adventures with his beloved Peace Riders, and scouring this state in search of its finest roadside cafe fare.
Barney will be remembered and live on in the hearts of his daughters Kendra (David) Tabor and Amanda (Paul) Wilson; his brother Jeff (Paula) Sales; and his grandchildren: Michael Owen Wilson, Aaron James Tabor, Molly Deborah Wilson, Stella Grace Tabor, and Matthew Joseph Wilson.
We rejoice in the knowledge and assurance of his heavenly reunion with his Savior, our mother, and so many other dear loved ones who have gone before him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made toward funding research and finding a cure for Friedreich's Ataxia, a neuromuscular disease that affected Barney’s niece and nephew. Barney has always had a deep gratitude for first responders and veterans. He was very proud to support the Tunnel to Towers foundation.
