Mrs. Sherry was born July 31, 1929 in Houston, Texas to Claude and Mary Elkins Chrisley. As the daughter of a street corner preacher, Becky Sam grew up playing the accordion and singing in several small towns across the south. She dedicated her life to God at the age of 4 and preached her first revival at 19 in Lafayette, LA. In 1956 she graduated from Pentecostal Bible Institute with a Bachelor of Theology degree. Becky Sam was Ordained as a minister with the UPCI at the conclusion of college. While in college she met and married Lee Sherry in 1955, her husband of 63 years. They went on to pastor churches in Tennessee and Illinois before being appointed as Missionaries, initially to Australia in 1967, followed by Fiji, and finally Vanuatu. They served as missionaries for a total of 46 years.
There was no better example of a wife than the life lived by Becky Sam. Two people could not have been more in love than Becky and Lee. Becky was a wonderful mother whos primary goal in life was the salvation of her children, followed closely by the love so clearly demonstrated to those she served in the work of God.
She was a firebrand…not backing down from what she believed and always standing up for those she believed in. Becky was very active but knew how to relax. She was confident and brave, lived life with vigor and adventure, but always a lady. To put it simply, she was balanced…a wonderful example to those who knew her best.
Wife, Mother, Aunt, Grandmother, Great Grandmother…she will be sorely missed, always cherished, and carried in our hearts with love.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son Jeffrey.
Mrs. Sherry is survived by her husband Lee; sons, Mitchell Sherry and his wife Caroleann, Jonathan Sherry and his wife Darla; daughters, Crystal Finch and her husband Karl, Twyla Moody and her husband Barry; daughter-in-law, Wynette Sherry; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
