Bettie was born December 24, 1938 in Lockney, TX and moved to Artesia, NM several years later. She lived in Artesia until she graduated high school and then attended Southern Methodist University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She was an elementary school teacher with a great love of children in Midland, Lubbock and Richardson, TX where she retired with close to 30 years of service. Her love of children never faded.
Always a member of the Methodist Church, she was an active participant in many church activities such as Sunday school, bible study groups and Stephen Ministries even after suffering a stroke in the summer of 1998 at the age of 59.
Bettie and her husband Jerry moved to Granbury, TX in the Spring of 2002 to be near step-son Scott’s family and to allow her more freedom after her stroke. She made fast friends and became involved in the De Cordova Women’s Association the Christian Women’s Group, The Opera Guild and other activities.
Bettie had a larger than life personality, was very sophisticated but also knew how to have fun, loved her family and friends greatly and was a wonderful Daughter, Sister, Mother and Grandmother. She did not know a stranger. In addition to her love for her family and friends, she had a love for travel, reading, dancing, tennis, skiing and painting and was even able to take painting classes with only the use of one hand. She continued all of these activities as long as she was physically able.
Suffice it to say, Bettie will be remembered for her fierce love, her “never give up” attitude, her great love of style, sparkles and chocolate!!
Her Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 16th at 11 am in the Brazos Ballroom at the Lake Granbury Conference Center, 621 E. Pearl St, Granbury, TX 76048.
