Betty Kathryn Mercer, 82, of North Richland Hills, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 2, 2023. Betty was born on June 29, 1941, to Ward and Kathryn Anderson in Dallas.
After graduating from Birdville High School in 1959, she went on to study education at North Texas Teachers College, now University of North Texas. Betty was a charter member of Richland Hills United Methodist Church, now City Point United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the choir and bell choir. She taught in the Birdville Independent School District for 30 years, serving at W.T. Francisco, North Richland, now Alliene Mullendore, and Glenview, now Jack C. Binion, Elementary Schools. Betty was a lifetime member of PTA, a Camp Fire council leader, and a member and former president of Delta Kappa Gamma Society. After retiring from BISD, Betty owned and operated Mimi’s House Child Care and Learning Center in North Richland Hills for ten years.
In 1987, Betty married her lifelong love and high school sweetheart, John D. Mercer. They were happily married enjoying their blended family for 18 years, until his death in 2005.
Betty has reunited with her husband, John, her parents, and her brother and sister-in-law, David and Betty Kay Anderson, in heaven.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Anderson, wife Theresa; brother, Kirby Anderson, wife Brenda; daughter, Paula Hiltibidal, husband Johnny; daughter, Kathy Cox, husband Butch; daughter, Sarah Kelley; son, William Mercer, wife Amanda Burg; daughter, Roxanne Magee, husband Leroy; grandchildren, Paige, Peri, Payton, Cassie, Alyssa, Austin, Kayla, Clayton, Carson, Olivia, Jesha; great-grandchildren, Bradyn, Gracyn, Bowen, Madelyn, Laney, Cannon, Daityn, Katie Jo, Kenny Earl, Abram, Luke; and countless family members, friends, and former students.
A memorial service will be held at City Point United Methodist Church, 7301 Glenview Drive, North Richland Hills, TX at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 11, 2023. All are welcome to attend.
