Bettye Jane Holmes Green passed away peacefully on March 31, 2022 in Carrollton, Texas.
Bettye was welcomed into this world by her loving parents Murphy Holmes and Margaret Elizabeth Clinkscales Baron in Dallas, Texas on April 4, 1928. Margaret remarried after her divorce from Murphy and Benjamin Baron was the only father Bettye really knew.
At the age of 5 Bettye competed in and won first place in a tap-dancing contest after never taking a single lesson. This began her love of dancing that would last for years to come. As an adult she took ballroom dancing lessons and won many trophies for her talent as a dancer.
On June 1, 1947 Bettye married Arthur “Hooty” Allen Green at First Baptist Church of Winona, Texas. The pair shared eighteen years together. After their separation Bettye never remarried, instead choosing to focus her life on family and friends. She went to work for Blue Cross Blue Shield as a customer service representative. Bettye enjoyed working cross word puzzles and dancing in her free time. She also served in various positions with the sorority she co-founded, Beta Chapter of Delta Theta Chi. She resided in McKinney with her daughter Janey before moving into a group home for care and support during the last year.
