Billie David Deprang

July 8, 1942 — November 9, 2016

Billie David DePrang, known by friends and family as David, passed away on November 9, 2016 after a long sweet goodbye with family by his side. He left behind his loving wife of 50 years, Mary Pat; his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Amy DePrang; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Karl Gager; a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Walker Beach; 14 grandchildren, Katie Penfield, Lexie Bertola, Riley VanGorder, Gannon Gager, Ross VanGorder, Garrison Gager, Zoe DePrang, Noah Beach, Karleigh Mei Gager, Dawson Beach, Grayson Beach, Ellie Gager, Ella Beach and Annie Gager; two great granddaughters, Emmie Penfield and Margo Bertola and a sister and brother-in-law, Denise and Bill Price of Georgetown, Texas.

He was born on July 8, 1942 in Palestine, Texas to Bill and Lillian Winslett DePrang. He grew up in Wink, Texas where he played football for Wink High School and was a member of the band, graduating in 1960. He spent many years at the Winslett family farm in Coleman, Texas and at “the place”, the DePrang family ranch in Novice, Texas. He attended the University of Texas, where he graduated in 1964 with a Bachelor of Journalism.

After graduating college he entered the Navy as a Naval Flight Officer and his first duty was at NAS North Island in Coronado, California. He met Mary Pat Rawlings in Coronado and married June 18, 1966 in San Diego, California. He served as a Tactical Coordinator for his flight crew and a Public Affairs Officer for his squadron VP 50 at NAS North Island and at Moffet Field in Mountain View, California. His squadron was deployed to US Naval Station Sangley Point, P. I. and patrolled the waters of Vietnam. While in the service his son, Brian, was born. He achieved the rank of Navy Lieutenant and was awarded two Air Medals for combat duty in Vietnam. After being released from active duty they lived in San Diego, his first daughter, Jennifer, was born and he entered banking.

After San Diego, he moved to Uvalde, Texas and worked for Uvalde Savings and Loan. While in Uvalde his youngest daughter, Sarah, was born. In 1982, David began as the Chief Financial Officer of Concho Valley Savings and Loan Association and moved his family to San Angelo, Texas where he would spend the majority of his married life. Through the years in San Angelo he served as Senior Vice President at various banks, including Bank of the West and Texas Bank. He was well loved by everyone he encountered, both co-workers and clients. His love was for the small town bank where customers knew your name and face. He valued the relationship that he developed with his customers, guiding them through sometimes trying points in their lives.
While David was a hard worker and dedicated employee, he still put his family above all else. His greatest love and pride was his family. He spent countless hours serving his wife, children and grandchildren, never hesitating to do even the most menial tasks, like washing the dishes. He had a passion for bird watching and playing jazz guitar. Most evenings, after everyone had gone to bed and all the chores were done for the day, you could hear him in the back bedroom playing a few licks on the guitar.

He will be remembered as one of the most humble and selfless men that has ever walked this earth. He loved with all his heart and he acted on that love by serving his family tirelessly. His sense of humor was one of a kind and was part of what made David DePrang, David DePrang. He will be more than greatly missed. The world may never see another man like him.
