Bobby Dan Brannon departed this earth for his heavenly home on Tuesday evening, July 2, 2024, just 24 days short of his 87th birthday. He was born a fraternal twin to his sister Bettye in Dallas, Texas, on July 26, 1937, to parents Earl and Ruby Brannon. One of six children, Bob joined the Army National Guard reserves after graduating from Crozier Tech High School in 1955. He was called to active duty in 1961 and completed his service in 1962.
After marrying his "first wife", a preacher's daughter named Sondra Clydale Quillin, on August 5, 1967, in Glendale, California, they eventually settled in Irving, Texas, where they lived for the next 53 years. A prolific gospel singer from his youth, Bob used his singing gift in ministry as a soloist and as part of many quartets, trios, choirs, and various other ensembles over the years. He served as worship and choir director at churches in the DFW area in the 1970s and 1980s, including Calvary Temple in Irving, First Assembly of God in Southlake, and First Assembly of God in Euless.
Following in his older brother Bud's footsteps, Bob went to work for Reynolds & Reynolds in Arlington for a while. His entrepreneurial spirit drove him to leave that job in the 1970s to develop Bob Brannon & Associates and later TDS Systems, both businesses specializing in innovative check and accounting systems, as well as custom filing systems for his many clients across the DFW area for several decades.
Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Sondra; his parents, Earl and Ruby; brothers Thomas ("Son") and Earl ("Bud"); and sisters Juanita and Ruby ("Honey"). He is survived by his twin sister Bettye; his sons: Todd (Marcie) Brannon and David Brannon; and his grandchildren: Chloe, Arik, Eden, and Gracie.
Visitation will be from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, and funeral services will be held the following day at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, both at Lucas Funeral Home in Grapevine, TX. Burial will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 11:30 AM at the DFW National Cemetery.
