Dad, Grandpa, Friend.
Bob was born in Austin, Texas, to Bob and Betty Butterfield. His family lived overseas in Turkey for two years while his dad was in the Air Force. He enjoyed telling stories of his time in Turkey, including his antics as a mischievous young boy.
His family returned and settled in Denison, Tx., where he finished school. His parents preceded him in death.
November 28, 1973, his heart was forever changed and filled to overflowing with the birth of his daughter, Rebecca (Beckey) Lynn. To say she had him wrapped around her little finger would be an understatement! He beamed with pride any time he was in the same room with her and whenever he had an opportunity to talk about her to others.
In 1974, Bob went to work for Dresser Atlas Oil Company in Woodward, OK. He was passionate about his job and acquired life long friends at work. His career journey took him to East Texas, South Texas, Mississippi, Houston, offshore on the coast of Texas, Scotland, and Syria. He loved traveling, meeting people, and appreciating different cultures.
July 28, 1994, his first grandchild, Chandler Vilbig, was born. It was love at first sight! Bob was very proud that Chandler chose to go into law enforcement and that he’d be starting college January 2018. Chandler’s son, Gunner, was born in 2012, and Bob loved playing with him and marveling at how smart he is.
April 4, 1999, his granddaughter, Makenzy Kunkel, was born. He had it all now with two awesome grand kids! He was a proud Aggie grandpa, who was delighted when Makenzy started school at A&M College Station.
He was a loyal friend and valued his many friends across the nation. He enjoyed riding his Harley, kicking up dirt in his Jeep, hiking, collecting antique clocks, and traveling.
Bob retired from Baker Hughes in 2015 and moved to north Texas, where he lived with Beckey until his death.
Bob’s spirit will live in our hearts forever.
