Bobby Joe Brandon led a full life in his 81 years. He was born on November 9th, 1936 in Wichita Falls. Raised in Quanah, Texas, he attended Quanah High School where he played the tuba in the school band. In his teenage years, he worked hard as a combine driver for the wheat harvest. At the age of 17, he joined the Navy during the Korean War where he worked on P-51 Mustangs on the USS Yorktown.
Shortly after returning home, he met and married his loving wife of over sixty years, Donita on January 31st, 1957. The happy couple were introduced by Donita’s brother Jim at a gas station where Jim and Bobby worked together. Later, Bobby sold insurance for National Life and Accident Insurance of Tennessee. He was a very talented insurance salesman and won several trips due to his hard work. Bobby excelled in his job as a drivematic operator at LTV, which later became Northrop-Grumman.
In 1966, he moved his family to the DFW area to attend seminary. He was extremely hard-working, and his family remembers how he often held two jobs.
Some of his greatest memories were made as he coached Pee Wee football and led the Tigers and the Bullets to victory in the 1970s. During his retirement years, he enjoyed being outdoors and spent most of his time doing yard work, repairing lawn mowers (some of the time successfully), and enjoying his beloved pet chihuahuas. Bobby loved golfing and was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys.
He relished his role as “Grampie” and could often be found telling stories and laughing over a bowl of cereal with his grandkids. His family often joked that his body composition consisted purely of coffee, chocolate, and cigarettes. Bobby passed away peacefully on December 23rd, 2017 and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Ruby Brandon, brothers Grady and Roy Brandon, and sons Timothy and Anthony (and wife Kim) Brandon. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Donita Brandon; son Bo Brandon and wife Lisa; daughter Kim Stewart; sister Sarah Nary and husband Ed; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; extended family and dear friends.
