Bonita Luzette Lewis

Bonita Luzette Totz Lewis, resident of Burleson, Texas, formerly from different areas around Chicago, Illinois, passed away on March 19, 2025 in Burleson at the age of 98 years.

Bonny was born in Elgin, Illinois on March 15 1927. She grew up living in Louisiana and Illinois before graduating from Northern Illinois University and becoming a Kindergarten teacher. She married Dr. James W. Lewis on August 3, 1960 and were married for 54 years before his passing in 2015.

She was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Burleson, the Eumathian Club, Women’s Club and Dental Auxiliary Club and served as their President for several years,

She enjoyed reading and was very involved in her numerous club activities.

Preceded in death by her husband James Watkins Lewis, her two sons, James Jr. and Jeffrey. Brothers, Clayton and Boyce Totz, and sister Carol Johnson.

Survivors: John Lewis and his wife, Brenda. Jana Robinson and her husband Scott. Five grandchildren, Sydney (Lewis) Chapman, Haley (Lewis) Fuller, Emily (Robinson) White, Tyler Robinson, and Hannah Robinson. Six great-grandchildren and one due in June. One nephew and several nieces.
