Bonnie Jean Kerr Kahle, 84, passed on to her heavenly home on December 2, 2019 trusting Jesus Christ as her Savior from sin, Alzheimer’s, and death.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Raymond F. Kahle. She is survived by her brother Bob and his wife Mary Kerr of Turlock, CA; son David and his wife Kim Kahle of Austin, TX; daughter Susan and her husband Joe Thornton of Aledo, TX; son Peter and his wife Amber Kahle of North Richland Hills, TX; grandson Jason Kahle of Austin, TX; grandson Austin Kahle and his fiancé Rachael Siew of Austin, TX; granddaughter Kearsten Kahle and her fiancé Spencer Cummings of Austin, TX; granddaughters Addison and Caroline Kahle of North Richland Hills, TX; granddaughter Kelly and her husband TJ Ellison of Fort Worth, TX; granddaughter Kate Thornton of Abilene, TX; grandson Boone Baker of Madison, WI; granddaughter Samantha Baker of Rockwall, TX; great-grandchildren Elias and Lilly Kahle of Austin, TX; and great-granddaughter Leah Ellison of Fort Worth, TX.
Born July 2, 1935 in Elgin, Illinois to Robert B. and Hazel M. Kerr, she graduated from Elgin High School where she first met her husband of 50 years, Ray Kahle, at a basketball game in which he was playing. They married in Elgin on December 17, 1954. Over the years, educational and pastoral ministry opportunities led Bonnie and Ray to live in Valparaiso, IN, Springfield, IL, Houston, TX and then to Grand Prairie, TX where they lived over 30 years. After Ray passed away, Bonnie moved to North Richland Hills, TX to be closer to family living there with her beloved dachshund, Schatzi, until health necessitated a move to an assisted living facility in Bedford, TX in 2016. Bonnie graduated Magna Cum Laude from Dallas Baptist College with a BA in Psychology in May of 1982. She worked in various roles over her career, such as a bank teller, school and church secretary, substitute teacher, admin assistant for the Army Air Force Exchange (AAFES) in Dallas and the Dallas Center for Independent Living (DCIL). Yet, it was at the UTA School of Nursing, where she served as the secretary to the Dean before being named the Coordinator for the Rural Health Outreach Program, that she eventually found her career home until retiring in 1998. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Bonnie personified dedication, loyalty, grace, and sacrificial love. An avid reader, she also enjoyed watching sports, Hallmark movies, and laughing. Yet, Bonnie Kahle will perhaps be best remembered as a woman who passionately loved Jesus and for her unwavering advocacy for the unborn.
Her interment will be Friday December 6 at 11:00 A.M. at the DFW National Cemetery and a memorial service will follow at 2:00 P.M. at the Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, TX. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, TX.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Upbring in her memory to help assist in the care for foster children in Texas.
