Byrl Dean Whatley, age 76, of Hurst, TX passed away peacefully on August, 20th 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born on June 21, 1947 in Paducah, TX to Olen and Muzette Whatley and was the “middle” child.
He graduated from Arlington High School before joining the U. S. Navy where he met the love of his life Rosa. They married and eventually settled in Hurst where they raised their two daughters.
He spent the early part of his career in the Automotive Industry, moved on to work for Delta Air Lines, earned his Airplane Mechanic license and is where he eventually retired from in 2002.
If you knew Byrl, he was a very intelligent, soft-spoken, Christian man with a huge heart and funny sense of humor. He never hesitated to stop what he was doing to help anyone out and pass along his knowledge for literally almost anything and everything.
He was passionate about art, cars, carpentry, astronomy, music, history, politics, hunting, fishing with his older brother, family camping trips, vacationing to Colorado and New Mexico and any adventure that involved being outdoors and with family.
He loved to watch any show on Channel 13, old western shows (and would reminisce about his Grand Pappy’s cowboy days), drag racing and Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorn games. He would always call to remind you if there was a Disney movie starting or The Sound of Music was on.
He loved to piddle around in the garage doing his carpentry work, working on cars and would bring his huge easel in the house to create some amazing oil paintings to display in the house and gift to family or friends.
He adored his grandchildren (who called him ‘Tata’), loved playing Uno, Loteria, midnight snacks, painting, watching sports and working on cars with them. He loved to reminisce about the old days, talk about family history/memories and the cars he owned and drag raced.
He was preceded in death by his wife Rosa, parents Olen F. & Muzette Whatley and younger brother Mike Whatley. He is survived by his two daughters Jessicca and husband Zac Foster, Tish and husband Juan Ayala, his five grandchildren Austin Foster, Jaxson Foster, Skyler Ayala, Kaya Foster and Jayden Ayala, brother Dennis and wife Connie Whatley and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
