Calvin R. Rutledge
June 21, 1943 – February 22, 2023

Calvin was born June 21, 1943 in McKinney, TX and passed away on February 22, 2023. He grew up in Sweetwater, TX under the loving care of his parents, Merle McGuire Rhyne and James Rhyne, and his grandparents, Bud and Mary McGuire.
He attended Sweetwater schools and played football during his junior high and high school years. He had fond memories of the camaraderie he shared with his coach and teammates.
While visiting his aunt in Wylie, TX, he met his wife Pat Cummings, and they were married on October 27, 1962.
Cal began his career in the automobile service industry at Ken Grantham Ford in Irving, TX in 1963, where he worked for many years. He was trained and mentored there and developed lifelong friendships with his coworkers. He continued his career at Classic BMW in Richardson, TX and retired from John Roberts BMW in Dallas, TX as Service Manager. He and Pat enjoyed many fabulous trips during his career which he received as awards for excellence in customer service.
Cal’s pride and joy are his daughters, Teresa and Tricia, born in 1970. He became a loyal supporter of his beloved Texas A&M Aggies when the girls attended and graduated in 1992. He inherited their license plate, TX AG 92, and displayed it proudly on his truck.
During retirement, Cal (Pop) wore many hats ~~ babysitter for his much-loved grandkids, Chase and Paige. He continued walking them to and from the bus stop all through elementary school. He also enjoyed getting to know the neighbors and being a volunteer handyman when a problem arose. He loved sharing his knowledge of being able to fix almost anything.
Cal and Pat spent several years traveling in their RV. The best trips were those when Tricia and the grandkids came along to North Carolina to visit Teresa and Betsy, and then on to Disney World; and another to Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Zion, and Mesa Verde National Parks.
Cal loved all things outdoors ~~ camping, fishing, boating, motorcycling, 4-wheeling, RVing. Many happy hours were spent with his family doing all those things.
Calvin is survived by Pat, his devoted wife of 60 years; daughters, Teresa Rutledge (Betsy) and Tricia Sanford; grandchildren, Chase Sanford and Paige Sanford; son-in-law, Scott Sanford; sisters-in-law, Sharon Cummings and Gayle Coomer; brother-in-law, Michael Cummings (Debbie); aunt, Inez Walker; uncle, Otis Rhyne (Jane Ann); several nieces and nephews; his extended Rutledge family; and his loyal doggies, Chloe and Blue.
