It is with heavy hearts that our family is mourning the death of Cameron John Ritchie. A father, brother, friend and avid golfer whose generosity knew no bounds and whose eccentric spirit brightened up every room he entered.
Cameron was born in Toronto, Canada on August 19, 1954, the first-born child of our wonderful parents Jim and Alfreda Ritchie. Very shortly after his birth, the family relocated to Edmonton/Sherwood Park Alberta. Cam grew up excelling at various sports and making many great friends along the way. He had a varied career, stretching from working in the oilfield, paving roads, selling furniture, to being a member of the PGA.
On his return to Edmonton from BC, he met Cynthia Wilson and they travelled together to San Diego, California where he was enrolled in the San Diego golf academy. Shortly after, he proposed to Cynthia, they had the most magnificent wedding where Canadian friends and new US family met and celebrated their special day- it was a great week for all.
Clarke McKenzie Ritchie was born shortly thereafter, then it was off to Texas. Cam was a great Dad, showing, teaching and coaching Clarke in all the sports Cam loved as a kid. As our parents grew older, Cam returned to Canada to help look after our mom in Ottawa. When Alfreda left us and joined Jim, Cam spent quality time with his brother Kevin and sister Susan in Ottawa before returning to Dallas and his son Clarke. Cam was extremely proud of Clarke and loved being with him in Dallas.
In his last years, he enjoyed (per his words) being “Semi Retired”, working a part-time gig at the local Grapevine golf course. Perks of the job: free golf & free range balls, any golfers dream. Cam passed away suddenly and peacefully on Sunday March 24, 2024 in his sleep. Above all, Cam cherished his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by Ian, Kevin, Susan and above all by Clarke.
Please share any memories, stories and pictures you may have of Cameron on this site. Thank you for your condolences, thoughts and prayers already received.
