Fort Worth, Texas – Carl E. Voelker passed away in the hospital on Tuesday, September 3rd at 4:29pm surrounded by his close family. He was 65 years old. Born on July 22, 1959 at Little Company of Mary hospital, in Evergreen Park, IL to parents Charles and Bernice Voelker. He grew up on the southwest side of Chicago; a graduate of Owen Grammer school and Bogan High School 1977. Carl had two great loves – golf and the Chicago White Sox. An enthusiastic Chicago White Sox fan living in a household full of Chicago Cub fans, Carl never missed an opportunity to rib his brothers and dad when the Sox won and the Cubs lost. His love of ‘70s rock music drew him into working in the music industry booking bands which led him to working for a well know Chicago FM radio station as an account sales executive. Throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s working at the radio station afforded him the opportunity to meet great entertainers like Sammy Davis Jr, Lionel Richie and Julian Lennon. Later in his career he transitioned into home construction starting a home builder business. In 2018 he relocated to Texas to seek new job opportunities and be closer to his younger brother and family. While in Texas he signed on to Home Depot’s newly launched Home Services Division where he focused on home exterior sales. He enjoyed living in Texas especially the short mild winters and spending the holidays with his family. Carl enjoyed being a supported Uncle to his nephew Charles cheering him on at his high school swim meets and attending his high school and college graduations. Unfortunately, the great plans to enjoy the Texas lifestyle, golfing and attending baseball games with his brother and nephew, never materialized when four years ago he was given the grim diagnosis of end-stage renal disease. His life became frequent doctor visits and regular dialysis treatments. Through it all Carl maintained his biting wit, warped sense of humor, and grumpy demeanor especially when challenged about his choice of diet.
Carl is survived by his brother Ron, his wife Gwen and his nephew Charles, his sister-in-law Teri Sinovich, his niece Amanda Worley and nephew Jonathon Voelker. He was preceded in death by his father Charles, his mother Bernice and his brother John.
Carl will be cremated and his cremains laid to rest in his parents and grandparents family plot in St Mary’s Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL.
