Carole Casteel

November 17, 1932 — April 27, 2023

Carole was born in Summit, New Jersey on November 17, 1932 to the late Joseph Remiro and Katherine Remiro. She passed away on April 27, 2023. She was educated through the 9th grade, but had to stop school to get a job and help her parents. She eventually continued with adult education and received her high school diploma. The family moved to New Bedford, Massachusetts where she met Graham L. Smith and they married. Carole and Graham moved to Mishawaka, Indiana where Graham worked for the Pepsi Cola company and Carole became a homemaker. Unfortunately, they divorced and she became a single mother of four children. Carole eventually found work with the Uniroyal Corporation putting soles on Tennis shoes. Through the years, she and many other women were laid off. She was able to find a bank teller job where she worked until 1972 and then decided to pick up roots and move to Fort Worth, Texas to join her sister, Midge and her family, along with her mother, Katherine. In Fort Worth, she worked retail sales for the Stripling & Cox company for 30 years until they closed. While working there, she met Bob G. Casteel and they married in 1980. She loved Bob and continued to enjoy life with less financial struggle. Together they shared life until he passed away in 2006. She then went to work for Ocones Bridal Shop as a bridal consultant -which she absolutely loved! The Ocones retired and closed the shop and then Carole decided to finally retire also at 84 years old. She enjoyed dancing and collecting rare Barbie Dolls of the World. She enjoyed going to California and seeing the beautiful redwoods where her son John lived. She loved going to Disney World with family. She very much enjoyed shopping and getting bargains. She enjoyed sitting down and sipping an occasional margarita, and absolutely loved family gatherings. Family left to cherish her include: Carol Ann Self and husband Mike Self of N. R. Hills, John Graham Smith and wife Suzy of Eureka CA, Michael Wayne Smith and wife Pamela of N. R. Hills TX, son Robert J. Smith who left this world in 2009, step children Sandra Casteel and partner Laura, Linda and Jim DeCosta, and Wanda and Craig St. Ledger. Grandchildren: Michael Lynn Self and wife Jana, Lisa Self-Hubbard, Gina Anderson, Greggory Self and wife Misty, Julie and Geoff Hoopes, Steve and Laurel Smith, Tanner Smith, Allyssa and Breanna St. Ledger. Carole also enjoyed 10 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends!
