Carolyn Anne Folks

March 27, 1940 — November 7, 2016

Carolyn Anne Folks, aged 76, died surrounded by her family on November 7, 2016 after a brief struggle with pneumonia. Carolyn was born March 27, 1940 in Arkansas, the daughter of Porter and Blanche Wilson.

Carolyn grew up in Rosston, Arkansas and enlisted in the U.S. Navy for active duty after high school graduation. After proudly serving her country for 3 years, she met William R. Folks in Bossier City, LA while he was stationed at Barksdale Airforce Base. They fell in love immediately and were married May 15, 1965.

Carolyn thoroughly enjoyed being home to take care of her husband and children. She had a great sense of humor and was always laughing. She also had a child-like enthusiasm for Christmas and could hardly wait to put up the tree on Thanksgiving evening. It was her favorite holiday and she always made it special for everyone around her.

As well as raising her four children, she attended a Wilton Cake decorating class and loved creating special occasion cakes for her church and all of her children’s and grandchildren’s weddings. Carolyn was also an active volunteer at her church where she served by leading the girl’s missionary group and teaching Sunday school for years. She was the Daycare Director at Grace Temple Baptist Church in Arlington, TX for a number of years in the early 1980’s where she could fulfill her passions for church service and the care of children.

Carolyn’s oldest daughter, Denisa Pinkerton, preceded her in death after a long battle with cancer in 2013. Carolyn in survived by her husband William “Bill” Folks, her 3 remaining children, daughter Theresa Jamison and husband Jett. Her 2 sons, Gregory Folks and his wife Kathleen and Steven Folks and his wife Teri, and her son-in-law David Pinkerton. Also by her 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Services will be held on Saturday, November 12th at 11:00 a.m. at Oasis Baptist Church followed by a veteran’s gravesite ceremony at the National Cemetery in Dallas. Visitation is Friday evening, November 11th at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, TX.
