Carolyn June Jordan Haman of Irving, Texas died Monday, December 2, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Carolyn was born January 16, 1930 in Charleston, West Virginia. Her life began with a trip home from the hospital in a horse-drawn wagon over wintery roads. Carolyn grew up on a farm with her parents and three sisters. She was educated at home and at Kanawha County schools with her sister, Charlene. She graduated high school at an early age and attended Marshall University.
Carolyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She married Robert Gordan Haman on August 13, 1949. Together they had three children, Robert “Mark” Haman, David Grant Haman, and Rebecca Sue Calvin. She lived in Irving for more than seventy years, and during that time she supported her church, her children’s schools, their athletic and extra-curricular events, and her husband’s profession. She even found time for bridge clubs. Indeed, Carolyn was always busy. But she was never too busy for Bob. She was dedicated to her husband until his death in 1983.
Carolyn was also deeply committed to the sport of figure skating, a passion she shared with her daughter, Becky. In fact, Carolyn always considered her many friends from the skating community as her second family. Locally, Carolyn was a member of the Dallas Figure Skating Club for 60 years and help found the annual Skate Dallas event. Her legacy is honored by the Carolyn Haman Helping Hands fund and the Carolyn Haman Spirit of Skate Dallas Award. Nationally, Carolyn served on many U.S Figure Skating committees and as Chief Referee for numerous competitions. In 2016, Carolyn received the 13th annual U.S. Figure Skating Jimmy Disbrow Award for her unparalleled dedication, selflessness, and volunteerism.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Gordon Haman, her grandson, Kyle Adam Haman, her sisters, Jo Ann Jordan Hutchinson and Virginia Jordan Horn.
Carolyn is survived by her sister, Charlene Jordan Davis, of Huntington, West Virginia and her children, Mark and Marcia Haman of Southlake, David and Alma Haman of Brownsville, and Becky and Mike Brondum of Colorado Springs. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Scott Haman, Joshua Haman, Brittany Sroufe, Carolina Haman, Matthew Calvin, and Chris Calvin. She was also loved by twelve great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
