Carolyn Hill Johnston

June 16, 1952 — September 26, 2021

Carolyn Hill Johnston, a beautiful and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, caregiver, best friend to many, and lifelong educator, went to be with the Lord on September 26th, 2021.

Carolyn was born in Dallas (Oak Cliff), Texas and graduated from Carter High School. She attended the University Texas at Austin, where she graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education and was a proud member of the Alpha Delta Phi Sorority. She furthered her education with a Masters of Education in Early Childhood Education from TWU; and a Masters in Library Science from TWU. Her teaching career spanned for 34 years in early childhood development and as a librarian. Carolyn's love for kids and her lifelong obsession as an educator was evident in every day of her life. She worked in the nursery at White’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake for 13 years and taught hundreds of children swimming for 15 years.

Carolyn’s love for life and adventure did not end there. She took pride in creating social clubs including her DeSoto bridge group, which has been active for 40 years, as well as starting the Southwest Dance club that amassed over 100 members. Carolyn was an avid traveler of the globe. She enjoyed sunset cruises and cosmos with a view in the finest of places. Any social gathering turned into a party with her spirit and her willingness to dance anywhere, to any music.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her father W.D. Dub Hill and in-laws Liz and Amon Johnston. She is survived by her loving husband Don (Trophy Club, Tx), her mother Mary Elizabeth Hill (Dallas, Tx), her sister Marilyn Hill (Dallas, Tx), her sister Sharon Hill Thurmond and husband Carter (San Antonio, Tx), her brother Richard Hill and wife Rae (Austin, Tx), and in-laws Bob and Jeri Johnston (Dallas, Tx) Jim and Suzanne Johnston (Dallas, Tx). She also leaves a legacy of a family, which was one of her most prized possessions that includes her 5 kids, son Thomas and wife Anna Johnston (Austin, Tx), son Stephen and wife Melissa Johnston (Dallas, Tx), daughter Suzanne Johnston (Los Angeles, Ca), daughter Megan and husband Daniel Arnold (Trophy Club, Tx), and son Preston Johnston (nomad). Carolyn is also survived by her 9 precious grandchildren: Addey, Lynden, Dub, Boone, Tristan, Cooper, Lively, Mary Claire and Jordan.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made in Carolyn’s name to the Children’s Ministry of White’s Chapel United Methodist Church and/or GRACE Grapevine.
