Carolyn Marie Murray Marshall age 73, of Hurst, TX, passed away on May 5, 2023. Carolyn was born on August 19, 1949 in Fort Worth. Carolyn was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, sister-in-law, aunt, mother-in-law, grandmother, friend, boss, and mentor. She provided tough love when it was needed and was an unwavering supporter for those she loved and about whom she cared. Always available to anyone who asked her opinion, she had a remarkable memory for faces and names and could remember almost any information she learned about someone.
Educated at Northside High School, North Texas State University and the University of Texas at Arlington, where she earned a degree in Accounting, she later earned her CPA Certification. Carolyn worked for the Fort Worth Water Department as a liaison to their customer cities, and left to work for the City of Watauga as the Finance Director. In 2001 she retired from Watauga to travel much of the United States with Bobby and their dogs. Upon her return from their travels, she formed her own business and assisted many Texas municipalities in keeping water and sewer rates reasonable while ensuring that the rates provided enough funds to cover necessary expenses. A strong belief in mentorship led Carolyn to hold classes for new finance directors as an active member of Government Finance Officers Association. She retired in 2019.
Carolyn’s hobbies included reading, running, watching baseball and spoiling her family members at every opportunity, especially her grandchildren. She loved music, especially listening to Elvis and anything her son was playing. She enjoyed travelling and visited all 50 states as well as Europe, the Caribbean, Canada and Mexico.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years Bobby Marshall, son J. Christopher (Kari), sisters Jo Benoy (Bill) and Robbie Gonzales-Ramos (Albert), cousin Beverly Pierce (Doyle), and grandsons Robert and Jonathan, as well as nieces, nephews and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Carolyn’s honor to neighborhood libraries or local 5K run/walk events.
