Carolyn Maxine Atchison Compton Smith was called home to be with the Lord on April 15th to join her family and friends that proceeded her in death. She was born on October 13, 1937, in Dickens, Texas to Roy T. Atchison and Margaret Chester Atchison (Jackson).
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Betty Hoover, brother Leon Atchison, first husband Charles E. Compton, infant son Ernest, granddaughter Becky Gray, nephew Gary Tinsley, great-grandson Cale Campbell, and second husband William Smith. She is survived by her sister Joyce Shafer, her children, Charles Randall Compton and wife Brenda, James Wendall Compton and wife Becky, and Marietta Compton James and husband Russell, as well as her grandchildren, Daniel and Dawn Compton, Jason and Terah Compton, Sarah and Craig Flanagan, Annie and Greg Berryhill, Alex and Alex Kolarich, Megan and Sean Schumacher, Peyton and Harrison Curtis, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She also embraced her new Smith family and appreciated the love and support shown to her by Bill's daughters, Julie, Patti, Bonnie and Brenda, and grandchildren, and their North Carolina friends.
Carolyn married Charles in Lubbock, Texas on December 25, 1955, where they began their life and family. They lived there until 1966 when Charles started a new job, which relocated them to Irving. They moved to Coppell in the late 1980s while Carolyn worked for Aeroquip. After she retired from Aeroquip, they moved to Lone Grove, Oklahoma until Charles passed away in 2003. She later married William Smith and moved to Boone, North Carolina and lived for 10 years until Bill passed away. In 2018, she moved back to Texas to be near her family.
She was a talented pianist and played for her church in their early years in Irving. She always enjoyed playing whenever she could until she was physically unable. She also sang in choir with her church group in Boone. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Samaritan's Purse-Operation Christmas Child during her retirement. Her incredible sewing and crafting skills were enjoyed by all that received her hand-made gifts of dolls, blankets, needlework angels and snowflakes, pillows, and much more. Her other passions included gardening, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
She was a strong, Christian woman who was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed, and we look forward to seeing her again when we join her in Heaven.
The funeral will be held Saturday, April 22nd at 10:00 at the Lucas Funeral Home located at 1601 South Main Street in Keller, Texas. A graveside service will be held in Lone Grove, Oklahoma at 3:00.
"Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge."
Psalm 62: 5-8
