Catherine M. West (Hourigan) passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2016 surrounded by her family and close friends.
Cathy was born November 13, 1940 to Michael and Veronica Hourigan in Detroit, Michigan. She attended Saint Ambrose High School in Detroit. In 1962, she married Bill West (also an alumni of Saint Ambrose) and they began their life’s journey that would last for the next 47 years. In 1972 the family moved to Terrell, Texas and 3 years later they all moved to Grapevine, Texas. She would live in the Grapevine/Colleyville area for the remainder of her years. Cathy was an active member of the St. Francis Community participating in activities ranging from the plans for moving the church from the “Little White” Building to being a Eucharistic Minister until she could physical no longer participate. She also loved her job with Frost Bank which she worked for well over 10 years after moving from 1st National Bank in Grapevine where she worked for many years previous. She was passionate about her customers and did her best to go out of her way to make them feel welcome. Above all else, she had a kind word and did her best to make everyone feel welcomed and loved. There could never be too many people at her home and she loved to have people drop by and visit.
Cathy is preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Veronica Hourigan; her husband, William (Bill) West; and her beloved brother, Joseph Hourigan.
She is survived by two sisters, Marion Russette (Hourigan) and Oleen Daly (Hourigan); sister-in-law, Helen Eisenhardt (West) and her husband, Duane; and brother-in-law, Gregory West, all of the Detroit Area. Her children, Jeff and Shelly West of Grapevine, Mike and Kelly West of Watauga, Erin and Scott MacAfee of Flower Mound, and Patrick West and Shannan West of Colleyville; grandchildren, Joshua Bell, Kaitlin West, Taylor MacAfee, Madison West, Meghan MacAfee, Abigail West, and William West; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Grapevine on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 10:00 am with a Funeral Mass following at 10:30 am.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday April 26, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Lucas Funeral Home Grapevine.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s hospital, an organization that Cathy was quite passionate about.
