Cathy Joy Mayfield

May 26, 1955 — July 7, 2014

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- Cathy Joy Mayfield went to meet her Lord on July 7, 2014. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 am Tuesday, July 15 at Gateway Church, North Richland Hills Campus, 7501 Davis Blvd - North Richland Hills - 76182. Visitation will be at Lucas Funeral Home, Hurst, on Monday July 14 from 5 to 8 pm.

Cathy is survived by her mother Joyce Wallace, husband Jim Mayfield; sons, Joshua Mayfield and wife Shelly, and Matthew Mayfield and wife Keri; daughter, Jenny Roden and Jason Giley; grandchildren, Brian Hasler, Gage Mayfield, Jackson Mayfield, Sarah Roden, Samuel Roden, Jacob Mayfield, Kaden Mayfield, Colby Grmela, Ethan Grmela, Jameson Mayfield, Emma Giley and Asher Mayfield; brother Chad Wallace, sister Jana Pogue, and many other extended family and friends.
Cathy was born in Dallas, TX. on May 26, 1955 and spent most of her life in Lancaster, TX. where she graduated from Lancaster High School in 1973. She married Jim Mayfield, her husband of over 41 years, in December of 1972 and they settled in their hometown where she raised her three children. The family relocated to the ‘farm’ in Navarro County near Barry, Tx. in 1998 to experience the country life and raise longhorn cattle. A final move to North Richland Hills was made in 2008 to be nearer her grandchildren.
Cathy received an associate’s degree in nursing from El Centro College in1988 and immediately began her career as an RN at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. She loved nursing and excelled in her profession winning the “Salt of the Earth” award from Parkland for nursing excellence. She retired from nursing after a 20 year career so she could dedicate her time to family and help raise her grandchildren.
Cathy loved serving and often volunteered at her children’s school and at church. She especially loved her time as a volunteer at Gateway Church where she served as food service lead and goodwill ambassador at the North Richland Hills campus.
Cathy will be remembered fondly in many different ways by her friends and co-workers. To her family she will be remembered as loving sister; caring mom who’s kitchen was always open and advise was always given; Maw Maw who always needed to add a little more salt to her guacamole, but otherwise was just about perfect to her grand kids and to her husband as his most precious treasure.
