Charles “Charlie” Edwin Shelton, age 87 of Bedford, left this earth peacefully on May 29, 2020. He is now in his eternal home in Heaven. Charlie was surrounded by his loving family and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Born in Nocona, Texas on March 24, 1933. He was born of parents of Annie and Joe Shelton. Charlie served in the U.S. Army as a microwave engineer during the Korean War. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Charlie served a four year term and received an Honorable Discharge on November 30, 1961.
When returning to the states, Charlie made his lifelong career in the railroad industry. He worked for and retired with BNSF, Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railway in Fort Worth, TX. Charlie started his career in the railroad yard and advanced his way up to a conductor and retired as a Train Master. Charlie retired from BNSF in 1996.
Charlie had a passion for country music and for the guitar. Charlie spent numerous hours playing and performing with family and friends. Charlie was a regular performer at the Bedford Senior Center in Bedford, TX. He played many afternoons, often two and three times a week. He played at numerous family functions such as birthdays, anniversaries and holidays. Charlie loved and performed songs by Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard. Wherever Charlie traveled, his guitar was not far behind.
A private memorial service will be held at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, Texas on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.
Survivors: Janice, widow, four step children, four children, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
