BEDFORD -- Charles Emory Compton, Jr., 84, passed away on Wednesday June 3, 2015.
Memorial: 3:00 p.m. Monday, June 8, 2015 in Founders Chapel of First United Methodist Church of Grapevine. Inurnment: Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City.

Charles was born February 9, 1931 in Depew, Oklahoma to the late Charles E. and Iva Givens Compton. On December 24, 1950, he married Jo Ann Dougherty in the Y Chapel of Song on the UCO Campus. He served his country in the US Army from 1952-1954 in Hokkaido, Japan.He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Education from University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, his Masters Degree in Education from Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas, and did post graduate work at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. Charles taught Math and Physics in Andrews, Texas, was a traveling science teacher with Oklahoma State University and the National Science Foundation, and worked in textbook sales, a division manager, and vice president for several major textbook publishing companies.
Charles was a member of First United Methodist Church of Grapevine, a Master Mason in the Grand Lodge of Texas, Andrews, Texas; 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Valley of Dallas, Orient of Texas; member of Hella Shriners, Garland, Texas; member of NEA and TSTA; member and past president of the Texas Educational Publishers' Association. He was honored as a Distinguished Former Student, University of Central Oklahoma 1978.
Survivors: Wife, Jo Ann Dougherty Compton; children, Charles E. Compton III and wife Diane; Carol Compton Tuohy and husband Tom; Curtis Compton and wife Mary; Connie Compton Westerman and husband Bryan; grandchildren, Sarah and Elizabeth Compton; Chris, Alexandra and Collin Tuohy; Bradley and Kelsey Westerman; and Mackenzie, Kara, and Tanner Compton; great-grandson Benjamin Lee Tuohy; brother, Joe Compton and wife Fran; sister, Judy Compton Findlay and husband Allan; and a host of nieces and nephews.
