Charles “Chuck” Weltzin passed away peacefully, on January 1, 2025 at the age of 65 in Burleson, Tx. He left this earth covered in love and prayer, in the hands and arms of his family.
Chuck was born on March 18, 1959, in Chicago, Illinois. His family later relocated to Garland, Texas, where he spent his formative years developing a deep appreciation for his country and the outdoors. As a testament to his character and commitment, Chuck achieved the prestigious Eagle Scout rank, a milestone he considered one of his proudest accomplishments.
At the age of 17, Chuck met his future wife, Sandy Rose, in an unexpected encounter at a local bowling alley. When Sandy approached him asking for the time—despite Chuck not wearing a watch. Two years later, they married, embarking on a remarkable 45-year journey together. He was a doting, faithful, and thoughtful husband.
In 1978, Chuck enlisted in the United States Air Force, dedicating two decades of service to his nation. Throughout his distinguished career, he rose through the ranks, ultimately retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1998. His military tenure was characterized not only by professional excellence but also by his exceptional leadership and mentorship. Following retirement, he joined Southwest Airlines, leaving an indelible mark on colleagues and friends.
Chuck’s deepest passion was his family. His life was dedicated to loving, protecting, and supporting his family. He always made family trips and dinners a priority, treasuring time together above all else. As Pop Pop, every moment was an opportunity for adventure and creating memories. When he wasn’t making his signature stovetop popcorn, he was busy planning unforgettable adventures for his grandchildren turning 10: tackling the Kingda Ka, the tallest roller coaster in the U.S.; experiencing The Lion King on Broadway; and bodysurfing in the crystal-clear waters of Destin. He never hesitated to give a wholehearted "yes" to his grandchildren’s dreams. He was an adoring supporter, enthusiastically cheering from the sideline or audience. His love wasn't complicated—it was simple, pure, and relentless. He gave freely- whether it was his time, love, or money. To his grandkids, he wasn't just a grandfather; he was a hero, a friend, and an adventure buddy who made every moment feel like magic.
Anyone who knew and loved him, understood that he set the standard for husbands, fathers, and grandfathers. He was a real life Superman, MacGyver, and John Wayne all rolled into one.
He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Weltzin, and his mother in law, Evelyn Rose.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Sandy, their two children, Kristie and Jason; a son in law, Steven, and a daughter in law, Johanna Weltzin; four grandchildren- Will, Olivia, Jones, and Jane. He also leaves behind his mother, Georgia Weltzin, and four siblings, Kathy Pickowitz, Jenny Weltzin, Cheryl Westbrook, and Doug Weltzin.
Throughout the past 10 months, our family gained a deep understanding of the challenges families face while battling this devastating illness. Chuck had a compassionate heart and frequently asked about a friend who shared the same diagnosis. In his honor, we hope to help ease the financial strain on this friend and his family as they continue their fight.
Please consider donating in our beloved Pop Pop's honor.
Chuck will be profoundly missed, but comfort is found in knowing he is whole again, united in Heaven with his savior, Jesus Christ.
Please join us for a celebration of Chuck’s life.
