Charles William Wood

July 10, 1928 — October 13, 2016

Loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather Charles William Wood went to be with his Lord October 13, 2016 at the age of 88. Viewing and visitation will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2016 from 4pm-6pm at Lucas Funeral Home, Grapevine. Funeral services will be Monday, October 17, 2016 at 11am at Countryside Bible Church, Southlake.
Born in Ft. Worth to James Newton and Mabel Clair Simmons Wood, he lived the remainder of his life in Grapevine and Southlake. For many years he was owner of Western Auto & Ace Hardware, in the now 100-year-old building on Grapevine’s Main Street, where both his father and grandfather had owned businesses and where today his son David is in business. Charles was a charter member and ordained deacon of Memorial Baptist Church (now Church at the Cross) in Grapevine and is currently a member of Countryside Bible Church in Southlake. In addition to loving and supporting the church throughout his lifetime, Charles loved nothing more than spending time with family, always initiating opportunities to get together. He was also passionate about the outdoors and was an avid sportsman, dove hunting with his youngest son the day before the sudden illness that took him after a brief hospital stay. His quick and fun sense of humor and ability to tell a joke or story, combined with his deep love of people, are traits that will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by both parents and infant brother James Edward Wood.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Margaret Flemister Wood; children Randy Wayne Wood and wife Holly of Monument, CO, Mary Claire Hutchison and husband Willie of Southlake; Jennifer Diane Wood & husband Robert High of Scottsdale, AZ; and William David Wood & wife Dawn of Flower Mound; grandchildren Margaret Hutchison McMillan and husband Collin of South Bend, IN; Cameron Hutchison and wife Shea of Monrovia, CA; Kirsten Nicole Wood of Flower Mound; Matthew James & Christy Anna Wood, of Monument, CO; great grandson Charles Henry McMillan of South Bend, IN; and brother Jim N. Wood of Roswell, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Countryside Bible Church, Southlake or to Church at the Cross, Grapevine.
