Christopher “Chris” Kent Cowans, born in Decatur, Indiana, on November 1, 1959, age 57, returned to the arms of his Lord and Savior, with his wife and daughter by his side, on December 15, 2016, in Bedford, Texas, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. His father Daniel E. Cowans preceded Chris in death. Surviving Chris are his wife Cathy, his daughter Devon, her boyfriend John, his mother Sharon, his sisters Kelly Rumschlag (Dave), and Kim Reilly (Norman), and his two grandsons Liam and Colton, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Chris graduated from Bellmont High School in Decatur, Indiana, in 1978. He received a degree from Oklahoma State University in Petroleum Engineering and was employed by Halliburton as an Instructor and Training Center Manager from 2008 to 2016. Chris also received an Elementary Education degree from the University of Alaska Anchorage, and was a teacher in the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District in Alaska from 1999 to 2007.
Although Chris traveled to many countries and states within the US, he never forgot his small town upbringing or his lifelong friends. He was a fast friend and never failed to share his love of music and Jesus with everyone he met.
Chris spent the last 20 years studying the Bible and strengthening his relationship with God. He trusted His will in all things and his faith never wavered despite the trials of his illness.
To his friends across the world, your prayers have been heard and his family greatly appreciates all you have done, along with the doctors, nurses, and hospice staff, to help care for Chris during his journey.
A celebration of his life is being planned at a later date in his hometown of Decatur. In lieu of flowers, Chris and his family would be honored if you would share a kindness with a stranger or encourage or help someone in need.
