Clarance Henry Adams

July 3, 1942 — March 12, 2021

Clarance Henry “Tex” Adams passed away peacefully at his home in Spring Creek, NV, on March 12, 2021. He was 78 years old. A memorial service will be held at the Lucas & Blessing Funeral Home in Burleson, TX, on Monday, April 26th at 3pm. Clarance’s ashes will be interred in the Glenwood Cemetery in Alvarado in the Adams Family plot at a later date.
Clarance was born on July 3, 1942 in Letcher County, KY. In 1949, when he was only 7 years old, he moved with his family to Alvarado, TX to begin a new life. He resided in Alvarado for 28 years. He married Sue Day and had two daughters; Susan Elaine Adams (Mayhew) and Charlotte Renee Adams (Bassham).
Clarance moved from Texas to Craig, CO, to Elk Mountain, WY, then to Hanna, WY. This is when he became “Tex”. No one in Wyoming or Nevada knew him as “Clarance” (but in Texas he would always be “Clarance Henry”). It is in Wyoming, that he met Shirley Irene whom he married on September 19, 1979. Clarance and Shirley moved to Spring Creek, NV in 1989. They celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary this past September. Shirley passed away on January 4th.
Clarance loved to hunt and fish, he even owned a sporting goods store in Hanna, WY for several years. He also loved to sing and play his guitar. His daughters remember having many “jam sessions” in Texas when they were young girls. Clarance continued his love for music while in Wyoming. For the next 10 years, he was a member of the “Bootleggers” band, performing every weekend at street dances and honky-tonks. It was great to watch him perform, he was in his element on-stage.
Clarance worked at Barrick Gold Mine in Elko from 1989, until his retirement. He was a welder by trade, a skill that he learned and perfected while working at Texas Steel in Ft. Worth, TX. After retirement from Barrick, Clarance spent his time at home, tending to his beautiful acreage and spoiling his dog, Zoey.
He is survived by his two daughters; Susan, and husband Jeff Mayhew; Charlotte, and husband Randy Bassham; step-son Ellie, and wife Rose Irene, brother Bobby and wife Judy Adams, sister-in-law Maureen Adams, and grandchildren, Clay, and wife Sydney Mayhew, Josh Mayhew, Kristin Bassham, Brittany Irene, and Eli Irene. Clarance is also survived by great-grandchildren; Allisyn Mayhew and Bryson Irene, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.
Those that have preceded him in death are; his wife, Shirley, his parents, Ernest and Ethel Adams, brothers Maynard and Ronnie Adams, step-sons Randy and Landy Irene, and great-grandsons, Benson John El Irene and Adam McLain Mayhew.
